Christmas Fondue Party: Brainstorming Ideas

Christmas fondue party

When I was brainstorming 24 holiday activities for our family to do in the days leading up to Christmas, I thought of a Christmas fondue party. My extended family eats fondue every Christmas Eve. Now that my immediate family goes to Florida during Thanksgiving but not Christmas, we miss out every year. I think it’s time to recreate the tradition here in Austin!

It’s so hard to schedule holiday events in December! I’m thinking we might do it the night before school gets out for break. That way, everyone is likely to be in town but we won’t be competing with parties on weekend nights.

I’m thinking we’ll just invite two other families with children around the same ages as our children. If there are three of us, we can split up what to bring in the following ways:

  1. Cheese fondue (with bread, roasted vegetables, and tater tots for dipping)
  2. Meat fondue + salad
  3. Chocolate fondue + drinks

I would set the table with these Christmas treats like my family always does.

We would have to add another table to ours, in order to fit such a large group. Or, alternatively, we could eat outside if the weather is nice enough.

After dinner, we could play Noel Games. I’ll have to write a whole other detailed post about our Noel Games tradition! Each family would be responsible for contributing a $5 wrapped gift per family member. After we play the games, we would pick gifts. The person with the least number of points would pick first. Then, the next person could either steal that one or select a wrapped gift.

I’m really looking forward to our Christmas fondue party!

Scheduling suggestion: do it after Christmas! My extended family always did its celebration on the 27th, and I loved it! There’s too much stuff scheduled before Christmas, so having it after extends the celebration (it is 12 days of feasting!), and also gives folks a break. We no longer attend parties on the last day of school, and try to keep things low-key on the first day of vacation because I’m done and my daughter is too!

That makes sense, Mary! I feel like the issue is that a lot of Austinites travel for the holidays. We’ll see how it goes this year!
