Dal Recipe
I’m totally into this Dal recipe right now. It has so few ingredients, it’s healthy, high in protein, and tasty. Unfortunately, Matt’s not so into it because he says it looks like Henry’s breastmilk poop, but he’ll occasionally eat it with me. I love to serve it with naan bread. Delicious and healthy!
Here’s the recipe from my yoga teacher:
- 1 cup pink lentils (called Masoor dal)
- ½ teaspoon turmeric
- 1 ½ teaspoons coarse salt or to taste
Rinse the lentils, drain and put in a deep pot. Add turmeric and 4 cups of water and bring to the boil. Turn down to simmer and cook the lentils partially covered. Stir occasionally to keep lentils from sticking to the bottom, until tender, about 25 minutes. For added creaminess, cook and stir another 5 minutes. When the consistency is like pea soup, stir in the salt. Heat and stir before serving.

Wow, this even looks easy enough for me to make!

Thanks for the recipe! I used curry powder, instead of turmeric, and a bit less salt, and served it with brown rice and a dallop of plain yogurt. It was so good for being so simple! I usually make my lentils more complicated, but I don't think they need to be now.
Hilarious about the breast milk poop, and so true! I wanted to tell my husband that while he was eating, but I stopped myself.
I've been enjoying reading your blog, and I'm about a year ahead of you on parenting. I like learning more about the Montessori approach.
Thanks!

Hi, am from India..we cook dal almost everyday…u could also add chopped tomatoes, ginger(small piece), onion for added flavor…. We cook dal in a pressure cooker..its faster and dal will not stick at the bottom of the vessel.
