Matt and I on our wedding day 11 years ago

Yesterday marked my 12th anniversary of blogging! I seriously can’t believe it. On May 12, 2007, I published this inaugural post about how I was moving to Denver and wanted to start a garden at our new rental property. Over the years, I’ve gone through phases where I have written more and gone through times when I have written less. I am now feeling “back on the blogging bandwagon” and hope that you will subscribe to our newsletter (see below) if you want a little bit more from Feeding the Soil each week.

I can’t believe how much has changed in my life since starting this blog. I’ve been blogging longer than I’ve been married! Matt and I were only dating at the start of this blog and were about the move to Colorado together to undergo Montessori training. We got engaged later that year, I turned 30 in February, married the year after, we moved back to Houston right after we got married, got pregnant three years later, gave birth to Henry, moved to Austin a year later, started building a house, got pregnant again, had a miscarriage, got pregnant again, gave birth to Tate, moved into our new house, and launched a school.

It’s no wonder that my time and energy for blogging have waxed and waned over the years! But this space is so important to me. It helps me:

  • not feel so alone in the world
  • dream big
  • hold myself accountable for getting stuff done

I have met so many incredible people through this blog. Anna and her family welcomed us to Oklahoma on a road trip. I met Kelsey and Sarah. Meghan invited us into her beautiful life in Santa Fe. I’m going to meet Daphne in New York City in a couple weeks. I feel so lucky.

I also recently had a video conference call with kindred spirit, Julie. She is one of the most self-disciplined, organized, and Type-A people I know (that’s a compliment, Julie!). She’s the brain-child behind The Bossy House: Where In-Charge Women Live. She helped me learn how to set up a mailing list. I’m excited about being able to connect more directly with kindred spirits. My goal is to send out an e-mail once a week. Please subscribe to my newsletter if you are interested! (You can always unsubscribe if it doesn’t meet your needs.)

Happy Monday!

I’m also so glad that we met because of your blog, Sarah! I remember walking around the lake and you helped me come up with the name of my blog – I think Henry was a baby in a stroller! And I love that you are blogging more lately. I have been sad these last years as daily blogging has not been as popular among bloggers I love but I still find it so interesting and valuable. So thank you for the effort you are putting in!

I remember that, Kelsey! When are you going to visit us again in Austin? Please come over for a swim play date!

Yes, I, too, have been sad that blogging is falling out of fashion. I love the act of reflective writing and the opportunity to connect with others across different cities/countries. I still read your blog!

Love watching you and all you’ve achieved over these years, Sara! And we look forward to visiting you in Austin one day before too long!
