Family Vacations: What’s on Our Horizon

family vacations: Tate during our last vacation in New York

Family vacations! I’m a bit behind on our planning. I try to plan both Fall Break and Spring Break as far ahead as possible, so we have more options for AirBnbs.

During the recent three-day weekend, I got motivated and planned two trips.

For Fall Break, we’ll be renting an RV and traveling to Big Bend. It will be a quick, four-day trip.

The first day, we’ll drive 3.5 hours to San Angelo. At first, I only picked San Angelo because it was a good pit-stop on our way to Big Bend. However, the deeper I go into it, the more fun stuff I found to do! Now I’m afraid we won’t have time to fit in everything.

We’ll spend the afternoon biking around their river trail and hopefully eating at the university buffet. The RV park we are staying at is at a marina, so swimming in the lake will be fun, too. And apparently there are bats you can watch head out for the night, too!

The next day, we will drive 4 hours to Fort Davis. We’ll grab hot dogs for lunch, head to a dessert botanical garden, get ice-cream at an old-school drug store, and then head to the RV park. That night, we’ll go to the incredible observatory. We already purchased our tickets to the Star Party.

The next day, we drive three hours into Big Bend. I really wanted to ride a row boat into Mexico, but I think the border crossing will be closed that day. My second choice is to hike to a hot spring.

On our last day, we will drive 8 hours back to Austin.

I’m really looking forward to this quirky adventure! I think the boys will love it.

Family Vacations: Spring Break

For Spring Break, we have finalized Los Angeles. 1) We love California. 2) We have free credit via Spirit Airlines (direct flight!). 3) Matt’s brother lives in LA.

We’ll spend one night on Catalina Island. We visited for the day the last time we were in LA. I’m not sure what else we’ll do yet. But I’m looking forward to it!
