Date in a Box: Simple Ideas
A while back I was sharing that I have some friends going through hard things. I texted one of my friends specific options of how I could help: 1) dropping off a home cooked veggie chili meal on a weekend 2) having dinner delivered via GrubHub 3) stopping by to vacuum and wash dishes 4) a massage gift certificate 5) date in a box.
She picked Date in a Box.
Here’s how I pulled it together:
I quickly realized that it wasn’t legal to mail wine without a license, so I decided to hand deliver it. That made box selection easier. I opted to use an extra Tupperware container I had around the house.
I threw in some tissue paper, a bottle of wine, and these quick-make brownies. I also added some tea candles from IKEA. Then I wrote some conversation-starter questions on cards and tied them with a ribbon. Here were the ones I used:
- What is something you have never told me?
- What do you think makes us so good together?
- What is one goal you have for us in the upcoming year?
- What is your favorite way to spend time with me?
- What do you hope is true about our life in five years?
- What is one of your favorite things about me that you don’t often see in other people?
- What do you think is one of our best memories together?
It was really fun to put together, and I hope it brightened my friend’s day a little.

This is such a great idea! I made a box similar to this after reading, switching out a dark chocolate bar instead of the baked good mix and adding two paper copies of the “5 Love Languages” quiz. Spent a wonderful evening in conversation. I also brainstormed eleven other ideas to fit into the box for date nights in, and now I have one for every month. Thanks for the inspiration!
