Natural Beauty Products: What Do You Recommend?
Ever since I started reading The Wellness Project, I’ve been wanting to get back on the natural beauty products bandwagon. I care deeply about organic, natural products that are good for the body and the Earth. However, the past couple years of parenting have left little time for me to consider or care about my full-range of values. Unhealthy products have snuck back into my repertoire. It’s so hard to fight it when the products work really well!
So I’m back. And I’m recommitting to better products. Specifically I’m looking for:
- Face wash
- Exfoliator
- Moisturizer
- Sunscreen
- Body lotion
- Shampoo
- Conditionner
- Deodorant
Honestly, it’s really overwhelming to know where to start. I downloaded the Think Dirty app. And I like it!
I’m interested in the Thirsty Naturals products (face wash and moisturizer). I’m checking out Tropic Skin Care sunscreen. And I went ahead and ordered Stink Bug Organics deodorant. (I heard great things about this one, but I have reactions to baking soda in deodorant.)
Do you have experience with any of these products? What natural beauty products can you recommend? I’m so eager to find a set of products (hopefully affordable ones!) that I can just settle into a routine with them. I don’t really enjoy shopping or thinking about things like this. I just want to “set it and forget it!” Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide!

I recommend Acure hair products. I use their shampoo, conditioner, and dry shampoo.nthey are the only natural hair products that seem to actually get my hair clean (when there’s not a quarantine, I usually wash 2-3 times a week and use dry the other days). Widely available (Target, Whole Foods), relatively cheap, smells good. Lotion is nice too.

Ooh…that line of products looks great, Catlin! Thank you for chiming in!

I’ll second the Acure recommendation. Their facial care stuff isn’t bad either. I’ve also had surprisingly good luck with the Plaine Products line for hair care (their blog based marketing methods sort of both me and the price is ridiculous, but the scents are nice and the work fairly well).
I love the Clean Slate scrub from Paintbox Soapworks for a face scrub, and her sorbettos are nice body scrubs.

bother, not both 🙁

You may already know about this, but the Environmental Working Group maintains a very thorough cosmetics database with excellent reviews/ratings of thousands of products: https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/. We’ve run basically every product we use in our home (e.g. detergent, dish soap, etc.) through one of their consumer guide databases and it provides huge peace of mind.
We love the ThinkSport sunscreen, which is EWG verified and reef safe.

I’ve been shopping for much of my skincare products at Follain.com. They have a huge list of ingredients that they don’t allow in any of the brands they carry, which takes all the researching off my plate, plus there are user rating on the site too. I’ve found that they really only carry effective and well-loved products. I like Tammy Fender the most, as well as Hurraw, Indie Lee, and RMS Beauty.

Thank you so much for the recommendation, Meghan!
