Tate’s Social Distancing Birthday Party

social distancing birthday party

When I made my list of Social Distancing Birthday Party ideas, I honestly didn’t think we were going to need to use any of them! But we are coming up on Tate’s birthday and it’s time to plan his celebration.

Here’s what we are doing:

We are throwing a social distancing birthday party for Tate! We are setting up a giant screen in our cul-de-sac and projecting a movie. We will use duct tape on the street/sidewalk to indicate a spot for each family. The spots will be spread far apart from each other, so families won’t get close to each other. Please bring your own chairs and plan to wear masks. Also, please note that there won’t be access to a bathroom (except for a private patch of grass in the backyard!).

I know some people will consider this plan irresponsible. I personally think the risk of transmission in this situation is very, very low. And the more we meet our need for social interaction in low-risk ways, the longer we can tolerate missing out on so many of our normal activities.

I connected with the four other homes on our cul-de-sac. They all gave a thumbs-up for the birthday party. So far, approximately 5 families have RSVPed yes. I’m really excited for Tate! It’s usually really hard to get families to come to his birthday in July.

I’m thinking we will make goodie-bags for everyone. Maybe individual bags of popcorn and boxes of movie candy? And maybe bubbles? Ooh, how about glow-stick bracelets for when it gets dark? So fun!
