Halloween During COVID: What We Are Doing
Given everything going on in the United States right now, I find myself craving a little levity and joy! That’s why I’ve been wondering about Halloween during COVID.
The CDC recommends against trick-or-treating. That recommendation makes sense as a blanket declaration for the country. I feel okay evaluating the situation in our individual context.
We are definitely canceling our annual Halloween party on the cul-de-sac where we invite the whole neighborhood. However, I do feel okay inviting one other family over and staying in our backyard. Then we can trick-or-treat—being careful to stay very far away from others, to wear masks, to socially distance, and not touch the candy immediately. This won’t be hard in our neighborhood because hardly anyone trick-or-treats, and we go earlier than everyone else anyway.
Henry is the one who requested a “Halloween-themed” party. Our normal party is just pizza. So here’s what we have on deck for our very Halloween-y party….

In terms of costumes, we almost had a theme going! Tate wanted to be a circus ringmaster, and I was going to be a lion. But now he has changed his mind and wants to be a ninja (since he has to wear a mask).
I’ll give him a couple more days to finalize his decision before we start getting our costumes ready!
