Noom for a Healthy Life: Noom Me Versus the Old Me

Noom for a Healthy Life

I’m still going strong with using Noom for a healthy life. It has been about 2.5 months. I’ve been putting much better habits into place, which feels great. I’ve also lost about 15 pounds.

One of the activities Noom had us do last week was to brainstorm some of our new habits versus our old habits.

The first thing I love is that I’m walking thousands of steps every day. I hit this goal through a combination of working at my treadmill desk and going for walks through the neighborhood.

The other thing I’m doing is being much more intentional about “treats.” I used to do things like eat an entire pint of ice-cream (several nights in a row) just because I was on vacation. Or eat multiple slices of cake (on the same day) just because it was someone’s birthday.

I still eat treats a lot, but in much smaller portions. If I have calories left over, we’ll bake cookies and I’ll eat two. If I have a lot of calories left over for some reason, I’ll even eat a cupcake from Sprinkles!

And I’m more conscious about what kind of day I’m going to have. If we are going to eat In-and-Out burger for dinner, then I make sure to eat a really healthy breakfast and lunch.

It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to over-eat in the United States. Overeating can feel so normal! I guess that’s part of why the United States has the highest obesity rate of high-income countries.

I’m grateful that my motivation is still going strong! I truly hope I have turned the corner and that my new habits are actually a lifestyle change. [knock on wood!]

This is great news! Must feel great! I have been wondering what effect it has had on your kids (and husband?) if any. Do they overeat and make it a bit harder to stay focused? Have they followed your lead and also started eating healthier? Would love to hear about it! (:

Hi, Mamaschlick! Matt has been really good about forcing me to get my steps in every day, even if it means we have to go for a 5,000-step walk after the boys go to bed! Beyond that, however, he doesn’t make it that easy. He frequently wants to eat out (which I’m a sucker for). Because I have been so much more successful with logging my meals in Noom (way more successful than I was with WW or MyFitnessPal), I now only consent if I actually have enough calories remaining. If I eat a super-healthy breakfast and a really healthy lunch, then I can splurge at dinner. But if I ate a larger calorie lunch or snacked in the afternoon, then I tell him I can’t eat out. Luckily, Matt and the kids junk up on things like candy, which is not that alluring to me. I’m more of a baked goods gal! The truth is, I am the one bringing way more treats into our family because I eat really healthy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and then have calories left over for a treat. So I bake cookies about once a week (and only eat two of them—100 calories each). If I have a lot of calories left, we will go out for cupcakes or ice-cream! It has been pretty fun and I’m feeling proud of myself for my level of self-control and commitment to moderation. Definitely let me know if you have more questions!
