My Fall To-Do List: Falling into Winter

One of the most potentially stressful seasons is upon us: the winter holidays. Depending on what you celebrate, you have more or fewer holidays. I personally celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, my husband’s birthday, Christmas, and New Year’s. Luckily, I have a lot of luck using a Fall To-Do List to keep the season more enjoyable than stressful. Here’s the list I pretty much recycle each year:

    Fall To-Do List

How to Get Out of My Funk

In my most recent newsletter, I shared that I had gotten into a pretty low place. After sending out a distress call to hundreds of email inboxes, I realized it’s time to figure out how to get out of my funk.

I started by doing a Wheel of Reflection exercise. Doing the exercise didn’t exactly get me out of a funk. First of all, my scores were lower than they’ve been in a good, long while. Plus, I started having existential questions about what the categories should even be!

    I landed on these:

    • Career/Purpose
    • Family
    • Friends & Fun
    • Physical Space
    • Personal Growth & Spirituality
    • Health & Wellness
    • Sleep
    • Time

Family Gap Year: “Our Problems Just Followed Us Around the Globe”

I recently read someone’s reflection of their family gap year. The basic gist was (and I’m paraphrasing here): We romanticized what it was going to be like to live in another country and culture. But our problems just followed us around the globe.

I feel like that’s the start of my reflection. I didn’t necessarily romanticize what it was going to be like to live in other countries and cultures. However, part of me romanticized what our family life could be like while living in said cultures and countries.

    The Backstory

We lived the first 10 years of my … Read More
