Mammograms: Which guidelines do you follow?
I’m embarrassed to admit that it has been more than two years since my last mammogram (I’m 43). My goal is to get mammograms every year. I started getting mammograms at age 40.
In talking with my friends during Henry’s camping birthday party, I realized that other people have been given different guidelines. The discrepancy caused me to do a little internet rabbit-holing.
It seems like the overarching consensus is to start at 40 for average-risk women (and even earlier for high-risk women). I also read about the difference between 2D and 3D mammogram technology. It seems like 3D technology uses less radiation AND leads to fewer false positives. … Read More

Reiki: How My Session Went for Me
The other week, I mentioned that I was suddenly inspired to try reiki. At the time, I didn’t know much about it. But I booked an appointment and went for it! I am really craving more connection with my body. I also want to promote healing.
This year has been really hard. I imagine it has been hard for you, too?
Trying to run a school during a pandemic is no joke. And when I have to lean in hard at work, my family life suffers and Henry’s behavior escalates. And then we had a heart-wrenching tragedy at the school.

Reiki: Have you tried it? What did you think?
I don’t really know what reiki is, but I’ve decided to try it! Here’s the back story:
Last week, I finally made time to do 5 minutes of yoga and another 5 minutes of meditation. It was the first time I had done it in our new house, which means I hadn’t done it since at least mid-November.
At the end of my 10-minute mini-session, I lay prostrate on the ground and burst into tears. It was such a relief to reconnect with my body. I realized I give nearly 100% of my time and energy to my brain.
