I listened to this episode of the Girl Next-door podcast recently. Kelsey and Erica talked about their particular strategies for raising boys and girls. It got me thinking about the fact that I don’t feel like I’m living up to my own vision for myself. I strive to be a mom who is very intentional about helping children understand the world in very open and responsible ways. Help Families at the Border: #bestlifeforall

When I look at my children, I can’t help but think about the unconscionable injustice in our world. Why does my family get to live out our vision for how we want our life to be? Why do my children get to grow up in relative safety while other families just fight to survive? Or don’t survive? How is the way that I live built upon the suffering of others? Most immediately, I am wondering, “What can we do to help families at the border?”

How to Help a Grieving Friend from a Distance

Friends of ours just suffered a terrible loss in their lives. I know Matt and I need to do something. However, it’s always hard to know how to help a grieving friend from a distance. I don’t want to say something that trivializes their loss. Nor do I want to stay silent. It’s particularly difficult because they live across the country. We can’t show up and help in ordinary ways.
