    Description

    For three weeks, we settled into the “hinterlands” of Byron Bay.

    My family and I discovered this area of the world accidentally several years ago when we visited Australia for the first time. We knew we had to visit it again during our Family Gap Year.

    We lived in a little cottage on a family’s property, and we enrolled our children in school for the last three weeks of school. Honestly, this was one of my absolute favorite parts of our trip so far!

    Family Gap Year Post #28: Fast Travel up the Eastern Side of Australia

    Description

    For our fast travel exploration of the eastern side of Australia, we flew into Melbourne and stayed for a couple days. Then we flew to Sydney and stayed for a couple of days. Next, we flew into Brisbane, drove up to Tin Can Bay, and then drove back down to Brisbane for a couple of days.

    My favorite parts of this trip were the everyday things! We met up with my friend at a school fete, which is a little carnival fundraiser. I also loved the Collingwood Children’s Farm. And one of the highlights of Melbourne was getting haircuts!

    Family Gap Year Post #27: Fast Travel Around Southeast Asia

    Description

    What a whirlwind tour around some amazing spots in Asia!

    First, we flew to Japan for a night, so we could break up the long trip from Hawai’i to Malaysia. I’m so glad we did! Spending a night in Japan and getting a little taste of the culture was incredible.
