    The other night, Henry and I were out in our neighborhood. He was on his rollerblades, and I was on foot. We came across a hopeful poem, posted on a neighbor’s lawn. I took a picture of it so I could share it with you. I didn’t realize it had already gone viral! Of course it had. I am never hip enough to “break the news” on something! It makes me laugh.

    Summer Spruce Up

    I’m really trying not to count how many weeks we’ve been in shelter-in-place. I tend to keep my mind pretty fuzzy about the date in general, except when it’s Friday and we get to have a Movie Night. (The four of us rotate through selecting the movies.) As we continue to spend so much time at home and the weather becomes consistently warm, I’m really feeling the need for a Summer Spruce Up at our home.

    I know that sheltering in place during an unprecedented pandemic is not a good time to start asking deep, existential questions about my life. And yet here I am asking: Can you help me have faith in the United States again?

    In college, I majored in American Studies (with minors in Women & Gender Studies and English). I spent most of my time focused on our country’s problems.
