On the Reading Docket
I’m so excited about the books I picked up at my local library (requested through inter-library loan):- Diaper Free: I’m eager to learn all about elimination communication (although I have to confess that I just read random sentences out of the book, and the author seems very radical–think unassisted home births).
- Montessori from the Start: This book seems a little dense but also full of useful information as I try to figure out how to transfer my Montessori knowledge from 6-9 year-olds to infants.
- How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way: Even just flipping through the pictures excites me!

DVD Review: Happiest Baby on the Block
A friend of mine recommended that I watch The Happiest Baby on the Block. She said the DVD was way better than the book, so Matt and I netflixed it.… Read MoreAlthough I found aspects of the movie disconcerting, I still recommend that parents of newborns watch it. I feel like I have some strategies in my toolkit to pull out when Matt and I are trying to cope with fussiness.

I get a lot of parenting advice that goes something like this: “Just trust your instincts.”… Read MoreIronically, my “instincts” tells me not to blindly trust my instincts. Maybe it’s because I’m an INTJ on the Myer’s-Briggs personality test. I like to do research. I like to read multiple perspectives. I like exposing myself to different paradigms and new ideas.
Of course, at the end of the day, Matt and I will have to trust ourselves to select from the various informed perspectives and piece together a parenting philosophy that resonates with us.
