    Fabric Store Finds


    I posted a request for dress pattern suggestions on my Facebook page.

    Julie suggested Colette Patterns, which has some super-cute designs. However, the strapless dress pattern doesn’t align well with my goal to dance uninhibitedly. (I’m just insecure like that.) The other pattern I really like–Chantilly–would probably over-emphasize my breasts.

    I searched around for some free dress patterns but couldn’t find anything remotely interesting. I then decided to trek to the fabric store.

    Laissez les bons Temps Rouler


    My friends and I are busy planning our ten-year Teach For America reunion. Almost ten years ago, we arrived in South Louisiana ready to help work toward the closing of the achievement gap.

    We’ll be heading to Baton Rouge for the reunion (I taught in a small, rural town called Franklin). On Friday night, we’ll be having a Black Bean Burrito night (one of the rituals of our impoverished teacher selves!). Saturday, we’ll do a service project at a school (and we’re inviting our former students to volunteer with us!).     Photo Quilt

    My school has a huge fundraiser once a year to raise money for our Montessori program. Each class is asked to donate an item for the silent auction, and each teacher is asked to donate an experience.

    My class and I made a quilt using photo transfer paper. Of course the project was more difficult than I imagined (my DIY projects usually are!), but it wasn’t too difficult. The photo transfers came out better than I expected (although I have no idea how long they’ll last).
