    Dwelling in Possibility: Building Community

    Friends, things are moving very fast on the Austin Pocket Neighborhood front. We modified our original vision of trying develop three acres of land and are instead seeking adjacent lots within a pre-existing neighborhood. That way, everyone can buy their own plot and build their own house, but we will still have shared communal space and an overarching intentionality to our little “neighborhood.”

    Things are moving quickly because we’ve found an appealing piece of property. I wasn’t even going to start looking for land until we sold our house, but you know me. I love to plan. I really couldn’t help myself.

    An Environment of Yes’s: How to Create It

    I am not a perpetual furniture re-arranger. I am not someone who takes pleasure in trying out new positions and arrangements “just for a change.” Sometimes I wish I were, but I’m not. Yes, I move these around from time to time to get them just right. But once things are in a position that feels tuned to my aesthetic preferences, I am perfectly happy to leave them alone and occupy myself with other pursuits.     Update: Family Mission Statement

    Before Henry was born, I put some thought into how we should display our Family Mission Statement. I wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing, in a location that we visit frequently, and something that we could revise very easily throughout the years.

    I wanted to report that–so far–the IKEA frame hung above our toilet is working perfectly. The original family photo I used featured Henry in utero, so I wanted to update it to something more current. I quickly and easily cropped one of our vacation photos into a 5 x 7 and changed it to black and white using Picasa. Then I uploaded it to Snapfish and ordered
