Inexpensive Greeting Cards: My System

My file folder system for organizing inexpensive greeting cards

I’m pretty obsessed with the inexpensive greeting cards at Trader Joe’s. I’ve never been one who is comfortable forking over $5+ for a single card. I’ve always thought, “Someone would probably rather receive a note on copy paper with a $5 bill than a $5 greeting card!” (Maybe that’s just me and not other people. I am a bit weird like that.)

But at the same time, I do want to honor celebrations with something nice looking. Enter the $1 inexpensive greeting cards from Trader Joe’s. These cards are fantastic. For example, they are sturdy, well-designed, and well-written.

Inexpensive Greeting Cards from Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe has a frequently rotating selection of inexpensive greeting cards:

  • Thank you cards
  • Sympathy cards
  • Graduation cards
  • Congratulation cards
  • Baby shower cards
  • Etc.

At the downtown Austin store, they are located right by the entrance. I don’t make it to Trader Joe’s often, so when I go, I stock up on cards.

My System for Organizing Cards

Since I stock up on a lot cards when I’m at the store, I had to figure out a way to keep them organized. I keep them in single hanging folder and separate them with a labeled sticky note. Each time I use one of the cards, I write the person’s name on the sticky note, so I don’t give them the same card twice.

This little hack helps me feel like I’m able to balance all.the.things in my busy life. For example, at the beginning of the month, I look at the calendar to see whose birthday is coming up. I then spend 30 minutes or so writing all of the cards for the month. It helps to “batch process” them and get them all done at once. I get to be a good friend and not feel totally overwhelmed. It’s a win-win!

Do you have any good hacks that help you save time and balance everything?

I also write all birthday cards for the month at the same time. I do it at the same time I pay bills to add some fun to that task. Some people get their cards a bit late, and some get them early, but that’s fine!

I love it, Luisa! When I’m writing cards at the beginning of the month, I go ahead and peek at the first week of the following month to see if anyone’s birthday is going to come up really soon. I go ahead and write theirs then, too. Hooray for snail mail!
