Crafting a Vacation Vision: Where Will You Go?

Crafting a vacation vision

One of the ways my family and I savor time together is by going on several vacations a year. We’ve figured out what works for us. For example, we like going on mini-adventures each day. Staying in comfortable AirBnBs that feel relaxing is our preferred way. We like access to water. We prefer quiet to noise. Matt needs space to run. I need warm weather. We need at least a queen sized bed. Two bedrooms is a must. We ideally like to reconnect with old friends while traveling. But every family’s process for crafting a vacation vision is different. Therefore, I put together some guiding questions, in case it’s helpful to you!

Crafting a Vacation Vision: Guiding Questions

What was your favorite vacation of all time? Why?

Next, reflecting on all the various vacations you’ve been on, describe how you spent your top five favorite days (you do not need to stress about putting them in any order!). Be honest with yourself here. Everyone’s favorite way to spend time varies wildly. Some of us like to visit historic monuments (not me!) while others like to lounge by the pool. The more honest you can be about what matters to you, the more likely you will be able to set yourself up for happiness.

Then answer: How many vacations do you want to go on this year? For how long? Approximately when?

Next, based on your past experience, what seems important to you to include in your vacations?

Finally, what other specifics are important? Weather? Wi-fi? Beach/pool/hot tub? Stars at night? Museums? King-sized bed? Top tier restaurants? Walkability? Be specific!

Favorite Vacations of All Time

In the end, I honestly try not to stress too much about any individual vacation. If I plan with our cornerstone requirements in place, we have a good time!
