Icebreakers: A Fun Get-to-Know-You Game

icebreakers

Once a month at work, we try to do “One Fun Thing.” This month was our Second Annual Popsicle Party. I was reminded of one of my favorite icebreakers. It’s so simple!

Materials

  • 1-2 strips of paper per person
  • writing utensils
  • a bowl or mug
  • an object to pass around (I almost used my son’s bunny from the photo above, but it was too smelly!)
  • a dice (I think that is plural, but I don’t think it will be clear what I’m talking about it if I actually write it properly!)

Step One

Turn on music and open boxes of popsicles. There are my personal favorite flavors:

I like the Call Me Maybe Pandora station when I’m trying to set a silly and fun mood.

Step Two

Pass out blank slips of paper. Ask each person to write down a get-to-know-you question that they would like someone else to answer. Examples:

  • If you had to eat only one meal for 30 days straight, what would it be?
  • Are you allergic to anything?
  • What are you most worried about in your life right now?
  • What’s the most unique place you’ve ever traveled to?

Step Three

Fold up the questions and put them in the bowl or mug.

Step Four

The first person rolls the dice and passes the object that number of times. For example, if I go first and I roll a 3, I pass it to the person next to me (1), that person passes it to the next person (2), and that person passes it to the final person (3). That person selects a question out of the bowl and answers it.

Step Five

After answering the question, that person rolls the dice and passes the object that number of times around the circle.

Step Six

If anyone rolls a 6, the person selects a question and everyone in the group answers it.

And that’s it! It’s really simple, fun, and doesn’t require much to pull together.

Do you have ideas for some fun and easy icebreakers?
