Halloween Picture Books: Our Favorites

Halloween Picture Books

It’s time for the Halloween picture books! Honestly, I was afraid the boys had outgrown them. If you know me well, you know that I obsess over our children’s “lasts” because you never know when they are coming. Was that the last time you will ever strap your child into a carseat? The last time you will ever wipe their butt? I get teary just thinking about it.

When September 23 rolled around, we pulled out the Fall books. And they were a big flop. Books about leaves just couldn’t compete with their current obsession. I thought we might be retiring our annual ritual of bringing out seasonal picture books.

But then it was time for the Halloween books, and the boys are still into them! We’ve been having fun cozying up together on the big bed.

A hilarious thing happened. Tate picked the first book. We read through the whole thing and laughed hysterically. I started to put it away, and Tate remarked, “That wasn’t a Halloween book.” Oops. One of the Thanksgiving books got mixed in, and we didn’t notice until it was over.

Here is where you can find our real Halloween picture books.

So I’m acutely aware that this may be our last year of reading Halloween books. I’m going to take full advantage of it! And while we’re at it, you never know when it will be the last time they want me to pick them up and carry them, the last time they want me to fall asleep with them, the last time they want to hold my hand in the parking lot. #thedaysarelongbuttheyearsareshort
