Best Tent for Family Camping: The One We Love!

best tent for family camping

In general, I spend a lot of time thinking about something before I spend money on it. I debated for a long time about what we wanted to do about our tent situation. We finally landed on what feels like the best tent for family camping!

Before Matt and I met, we each had our own tents. We consolidated down to just my tent because it was in better condition. But my tent didn’t comfortably fit all four of us. So we debated about whether to get another 2-person tent or to get a bigger tent for all of us to share.

In the meantime, we borrowed a friend’s tent for our first camping trip as a family. It was huge, and we ended up loving it. So then began the process of scrolling through Amazon trying to find the right size at the right price.

We landed on this one and don’t regret it at all. Here’s what we love about our tent:

  • We can all stand up inside it. No claustrophobia at all!
  • The entire top of it is screen, which makes for really beautiful nights under the stars.
  • It’s a pop-up tent, so the poles stay in it at all times. Literally one person can put the tent up by themselves.
  • And one person can take it down, too!
  • It collapses really easily into its bag.

And to make sure I write a well-rounded review, here’s what I don’t love:

  • The fabric feels a little flimsier than my previous tent from REI. I’m not too worried about it, since I imagine we will only go camping a few times a year.
  • There aren’t a ton of internal pockets inside the tent. I would appreciate more of these to help with organization. But there are enough for my phone and eye-glasses while I sleep.

We recently went on our second camping trip of the year—this time with our co-ed scouting group. Our tent did not disappoint. And our tub system for keeping all of our camping gear on-hand and ready to “grab-and-go” is working really well.

Why don’t you say the name of the tent? The last post too, you didn’t say what your kids were “obsessed” with, just threw in an affiliate link.

My main requirements for a tent include a full fly and a vestibule for rainy weather! The other helpful hint I have heard when tent buying is to get a size for one more person than in your party.
