Good Times

So This is 42

I celebrated my 42nd birthday this weekend! I debated various ideas about how to celebrate and decided to do a night away with Matt at a hotel. (This photo is not from the hotel; it’s from our recent RV trip to Big Bend.)

At first the plan was that he was going to try and barter his photography and videography services for a free hotel room. When that didn’t work out, I found a day-of hotel website and unlocked a cheap deal at a local resort.

We had our last recruitment event of the season for my school, so we couldn’t actually leave for the hotel until 5:00 or 5:30pm. We grabbed take-out on the way. By the time we got to the hotel, it felt pretty late. We went in the hot tub and then played card games back in the room.

It was exactly what I needed this year! My mom was in town, so it worked out perfectly. If we go on an Around the World trip, it’s going to be 24/7 with our children for a whole year. We needed a break while we could get it!

P.S. Have you read this article on Cup Of Jo about the birthday experiment that changed everything? If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it!

Hi, mamaschlick! I literally googled “last minute hotel deals” and clicked the first site! Then it said, “Click here to unlock this deal.” I clicked it and it said I had 15 minutes to book the special rate. I had to read the fine print because the advertised price of $109 ended up being more with a fee due upon arrival. But it was still a good price for the place.
