A Night Away with One Child: Highly Recommended!

A Night Away with One Child

I was finally able to take a night away with one child! And it was so much fun.

On Friday afternoon, Henry and I headed out of town into Hill Country. We rented someone’s pool house via AirBnB. It was a simple one bedroom place with access to the river, a hot tub, and a (freezing) pool.

I followed Henry’s lead about how we should spend our time together. We walked down to the river to sit on the dock. We played several rounds of Connect 4 (with bites of cotton candy for the winner). We got take out food and had a picnic on the bed while watching TV. We lounged in the hot tub. And we cooked S’mores over a sterno can twice!

Henry asked, “Can we do this again? Like once a month?” He is such a sweet boy.

So I have set a recurring invite on my calendar for every two months. I’m not sure how long it will last for my nearly 10 year-old son to want to go away with me for a night. I know his friends will start to compete for his time soon enough.

Next time, I think we will go to a hotel and just order in room service. It would be really fun to just do hot tub, TV, food delivery from 5pm on a Friday until 11am on a Saturday.

Tate is perfectly fine staying home with Matt while Henry and I are away. He gets sweet treats, too, and he is such a home body.

I’m looking forward to March when I get to do a night away with only one child again!
