    So This is 42

    February 12, 2020 / 2 Comments

I celebrated my 42nd birthday this weekend! I debated various ideas about how to celebrate and decided to do a night away with Matt at a hotel. (This photo is not from the hotel; it’s from our recent RV trip to Big Bend.)

At first the plan was that he was going to try and barter his photography and videography services for a free hotel room. When that didn’t work out, I found a day-of hotel website and unlocked a cheap deal at a local resort.

We had our last recruitment event of the season for my school, so we couldn’t actually leave for the hotel until 5:00 or … Read More

Sleepover Party: Our Very First One!

    February 10, 2020 / No Comments
    sleepover party

For his 9th birthday, Henry is asking for a sleepover party. This will be our very first one as a family!

Here’s what we’re thinking: three friends (two boys and a girl). The girl’s parents have already said she can only stay for the evening and needs to get picked up before bed.

    • 5pm on a Friday night = Arrival (appetizers = chips and dip, mangoes, candy)
    • 5pm-5:45pm = Free play
    • 5:45pm-6:00pm = Pizza and cake
    • 6:00pm=7:00pm = More free play
    • 7:00pm = Movie (popcorn and root beer floats)
    • 9:00pm = Lights Out
    • 7am = Playing and pancake breakfast
    • 8:30am = Pick up

Can’t wait for the sleepover party!

    January 27, 2020 / No Comments

I know this taco bar post is kind of lame. I am not one who should be writing about food things! But, hear me out! I’m writing about it because it can be hard to find community in our lives. The United States is only the 19th happiest nation in the world, despite all our material resources. And the research shows that community and connection are significantly linked to happiness. So I say, let’s start planning more things like a taco bar or a chili bar to get together with our friends and neighbors!

We are becoming close friends with two other families. I try to stoke the flame … Read More
