Quick Snack Ideas for Hungry Kids
The other day Henry brought home three friends and I didn’t have much time to pull together some quick snack ideas for hungry kids.
First, I chopped up some vegetables and put them around a small bowl of ranch dressing.
I also had some fruit. I was going to make a dip out of plain Greek yogurt, honey, and cinnamon. But this time I opted for Nutella, plain Greek yogurt, honey, and vanilla.
I threw some pickles into a small bowl for good measure.
I also had an extra box of King Arthur’s Muffin mix lying around, so I made chocolate chip muffins.

My Parenting Meditation: What I’m Trying
Now that my job situation is more under control (after more than 8 years!) I’m shifting my focus to my parenting. I’m reading lots of books and trying to stay grounded.
There are so many reasons why parenting is super-hard for me, in particular! First, I like the destination more than the journey. (And parenting is all journey!). Second, I like to sculpt and control things to optimize the outcome. And parenting is more about watering seeds—seeds that grow into whatever they were destined to be (not determined by me).

Showing Up as a Mother: What I’m Thinking About
I’ve been reflecting a lot these past several months. I’m coming to the realization that my job has crowded out my ability to truly “show up” as a mother for the past nine or so years.
And I’m not sure that I was truly aware that it was. I think I was fighting like hell to “have it all.” I am so passionate about educational equity and social justice through education. I see all the problems around us in the world and think, “We can solve so many of these issues if we nurture our children differently in schools.”
