Family Gap Year Post #5: Getting into the Weeds

I’m still waiting for things to get into a steady and strong place at school. We are hiring a new principal for the 2020-21 school year. However, I am moving forward with planning a Family Gap Year. My hope is we can hire a really strong principal and feel like the school is in a strong place. Then I will make a formal request to the Board of Directors to allow me to work remotely for one year, starting in June. (I’m the Executive Director, not the Principal.)

Blueberry Kale and Cacao Smoothie

Now that Matt and I are back on a really strict budget, I have stopped indulging in Daily Harvest smoothies. I felt horrible for impacting the environment in such negative ways anyway. But I still enjoyed getting so many fruits and veggies every day with such minimal effort! I tried to replicate my favorite item of all: a blueberry kale and cacao smoothie.
One of the biggest benefits to the Daily Harvest smoothies was that everything was already in a cup ready to go. You could just dump, add a liquid, and blend. I’ve been trying to recreate a similarly easy experience.

A Long Weekend in San Diego: Fun, Fun!

Recently, we had the chance to spend a long weekend in San Diego. Matt’s mom stays out there each winter and invited us to stay with her. Matt’s dad also flew in for the weekend, and his brother drove down from Los Angeles.
We found great tickets flying out of Austin around 5pm on Friday after school/work. The price was so great that one of Tate’s classmate and her family were also on the same flight for a long-weekend getaway.
