Date in a Box: Simple Ideas

    January 21, 2020 / 2 Comments
    date in a box

A while back I was sharing that I have some friends going through hard things. I texted one of my friends specific options of how I could help: 1) dropping off a home cooked veggie chili meal on a weekend 2) having dinner delivered via GrubHub 3) stopping by to vacuum and wash dishes 4) a massage gift certificate 5) date in a box.

She picked Date in a Box.

Here’s how I pulled it together:

I quickly realized that it wasn’t legal to mail wine without a license, so I decided to hand deliver it. That made box selection easier. I opted to use an extra Tupperware container … Read More

Diverse Picture Books About Race and Racism

    January 15, 2020 / No Comments

Every month, Montessori For All selects an anti-bias, anti-racist book for our teachers to read to their communities. First we select one for 3-6 year-olds, then one for 1st-3rd graders, and finally one for 4th-6th graders. Therefore, if you would like to subscribe to our monthly newsletter to receive links to book guides with discussion questions, vocabulary words, and extension activities to be used in the classroom or at home, you can sign up here. This month we are focusing on race and racism. Further, you can find books about peace/justice/empathy here or immigration and refugees here.

    chili bar

So Saturday morning, we decided to text two sets of family friends to see if they had any interest in coming over that afternoon. I decided to pull together a chili bar for a quick and easy (and inexpensive) meal for a group.

The whole thing was simple and low-key. First, I made this recipe for vegetarian chili. Then I set up the following sides:

    • Red onion
    • Shredded cheese
    • Sour cream
    • Cilantro
    • Avocado
    • Tortilla chips
    • Diced tomato
